Ruth Wilson Laws, 81, of Salisbury died Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake.Born in Salisbury May 23, 1933, Ruth was a daughter of the late Royce B. and Belva Wilson. When Ruth was 5 the family moved to their farm in Dorchester County, Puckum, where her father farmed for many years. After graduating from Federalsburg High in 1951, Ruth moved to Salisbury and worked downtown at Hess, Benjamin’s and Ted Winkler’s—loving every minute of it, especially the New York buying trips. Even though she was a “farm girl,” as she often said, she was also a “fashion girl,” in the words of one of her granddaughters. On April 28, 1957, she married Richard M. Laws of Salisbury. Dick and Ruth spent practically every minute together, working in the family business, 64th Street Market, in Ocean City, in Annapolis when Dick was a delegate in the Maryland State Legislature, or at Delight Farm, their home near Hebron. They could often be seen in the fall and winter riding down the corn rows near the farm on their horses Leroy and Pill, or foxhunting with the Wicomico Hunt, of which they were longtime members. Ruth’s happiest moments when foxhunting were at the close of the day, when she would wrap her arms around Pill’s sweaty neck and thank him for keeping her alive through one more chase. Ruth is survived by a son, Richard M. Laws Jr. and his wife, Wendy, a daughter, Cathy L. Hyneman and her husband, Roger, and granddaughters Shelby, Melissa and Ashley Laws, and Kelsey and Caroline Hyneman. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Daniel Doub Stoner, of Seaford, and nephews J. Brooke Willson of Glen Allen, VA, Bill Laws, of Salisbury, and Joe O’Brien, of Marydel, DE. In addition to her husband, who died in 2009, preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Carolyn W. Stoner, of Seaford. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Bounds Funeral Home, 705 E. Main Street in Salisbury, with visitation at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
